Metro Detroit Braces for Snow, Sleet, and Freezing Rain on Monday, With Accumulations Expected

On Monday, Metro Detroit will get snow, sleet, and freezing rain, with all three potentially accumulating.

Here’s a glimpse at what to expect in specific regions and when it will happen.

M-59 and North

Areas along M-59 and to the north should see snowfall on Monday evening.

Sleet or a wintry mix may fall along M-59 in the afternoon or early evening.

Overall, this area could get 2-4 inches of snow. Areas surrounding Saginaw and into the Thumb could receive 3 to 5 inches.

M-59 to the I-696/I-94 corridor

These locations should see snow in the afternoon and early evening, followed by a wintry mix of snow, sleet, and maybe freezing rain.

From M-59 to I-696, expect 1-2 inches of snow, which will turn to sleet and freezing rain. There could be enough of the wintry mix to cause some sleet and ice accumulation in certain regions.

South of the I-94 corridor

Snow will fall south of I-94 on Monday afternoon/early evening, followed by a wintry mix.

Eastern Wayne County and parts of Monroe County may receive some rain before returning to a wintry mix and snow as the system moves out of the area.

An inch or less of snow is forecast south of I-94, with light sleet and freezing rain also likely.

When Will the Winter Weather End?

The wintry mix and snowfall will end near or after midnight Monday and Tuesday, as the outlook shifts to overcast overnight.

Low temperatures were around freezing early Tuesday morning.
