Shooting on I-94 in Detroit Woman Injured, Two Children Unhurt as Police Search for Suspects

According to Michigan State Police, a woman was shot and injured while driving with two children on Interstate 94 in Detroit.

The shooting occurred at 1:40 a.m. on Thursday, December 26, 2024, in the westbound lanes of Interstate 94 near Mt. Elliott Street. According to police, the victim’s vehicle had multiple bullet holes, and shell casings were found on the freeway.

The woman was shot once and taken to a nearby hospital to be treated. There were two children in the car who were unhurt. Family members picked them up from the scene of the shooting.

Police said the woman will need surgery but is expected to survive.

The freeway was closed during the investigation but has since reopened.

“We don’t know why the driver was shot at, and we have no information on the suspect or the suspect vehicle,” said Michigan State Police F/Lt Mike Shaw. “While detectives are using all the technology available to investigate this shooting, we are asking members of the community who may have information to call either 855.MICH.TIP or Crime Stoppers at 800.SPEAK.UP.”
