Coroner Confirms Identity of Victim in Thursday’s Tragic Accident

MESA COUNTY, Colo. – The Mesa County Coroner’s Office has identified the driver who tragically lost his life in a car crash on Thursday. According to the coroner, 44-year-old Dario Urrutia, a resident of Grand Junction, was the sole occupant of his vehicle at the time of the accident.

The incident occurred near the intersection of Interstate 70 Business Loop and 28 Road when Urrutia’s Volkswagen Bug collided with a pickup truck. The truck was making a turn eastbound onto I70B from the frontage road. The impact of the crash caused severe injuries to Urrutia, and he was pronounced dead at the scene.

The Mesa County Coroner’s Office confirmed that the cause of death was due to the injuries sustained in the crash, and the manner of death was determined to be an accident.

After the crash, authorities closed the road for several hours to allow first responders to work at the scene. The Grand Junction Fire Department was also on hand to assist.

The Grand Junction Police Department (GJPD) is continuing its investigation into the circumstances surrounding the crash. As they look into the details, the community mourns the loss of Urrutia, and authorities are reminding everyone to drive safely and responsibly.
