Search for Missing 8-year-old Clara Robinson Continues With Support From Local and State Teams

The search for a missing 8-year-old Oklahoma girl who was swept away by floodwaters during a deadly Christmas Eve crash near Sherman, Texas, enters its seventh day.

The Sherman Police Department said Monday that teams deployed again Monday morning to search for Clara Robinson. The efforts are being supported by state, local and volunteer organizations.

“Their personnel and equipment have been very valuable in our work to find Clara,” Sherman Police Department officials said Monday in a Facebook post. “

We urge the community to continue praying. Pray for our efforts to find Clara. Pray for continued good weather. Please, most importantly, pray for the Robinson family. This tragedy is unfathomable.”

Around 9:30 a.m. Dec. 24, a family was traveling from Durant to McKinney when their vehicle hydroplaned while on U.S. Highway 75 and crashed into a flooded drainage ditch. Sherman Emergency Services responded to a call about a vehicle being swept away by floodwaters.

Sherman Police Chief Jason Jeffcoat said rescuers worked quickly to stop the vehicle and saved four of the six people inside. An 8-year-old girl was swept away, and a father was killed in the crash.

A 5-year-old girl who was rescued was brought back to life by paramedics, according to police. She was treated and released from a hospital, and the four are recovering at home.

The Sherman Police Department identified the father as Will Robinson and the 8-year-old as Clara Robinson. Durant Independent School District officials confirmed that Will Robinson coached the high school girls’ basketball team.

“Our thoughts and prayers go out to his family during this difficult time,” Durant Independent School District Superintendent Mark Moring said Friday in a statement. “We ask that you please continue to pray for them and for the rescue workers as the search continues for the missing child.”
