Border Patrol chief: Convicted rapist caught trying to re-enter U.S. illegally

EL PASO, Texas — Border Patrol agents in El Paso arrested a convicted rapist trying to enter the country illegally on Friday, Dec. 27, U.S. Border Patrol Chief Jason Owens said on social media.

Mario Roberto Ochoa Zapata was among four people arrested trying to enter the country illegally, Owens said. He did not give any details about where the arrests were made.

Owens called him an “aggravated felon” who was convicted of second-degree rape in 2011 out of Tulsa, Oklahoma. He was previously sentenced to 14 years in prison, Owens said.

The Honduran national will now face prosecution for his illegal re-entry into the U.S., Owens said.
