DDN – Authorities said three persons were found dead in a residence in Butler County as a result of suspected carbon monoxide poisoning.
On Tuesday about 5 p.m., first responders were dispatched to a home on College Street in Butler.
According to the Butler County Coroner’s Office, two males and one woman were found dead on the second story due to suspected carbon monoxide poisoning. Two other persons were brought to a local hospital for possible carbon monoxide poisoning. Their health status was unknown at first.
Before entering, first responders needed to ventilate the house. Investigators are attempting to discover what caused the elevated carbon monoxide levels in the home. It was unclear whether the home had working carbon monoxide alarms.
The victims’ identities were not made public on Tuesday night. Officials confirmed that the autopsies will take held on Wednesday.
The Butler City Police Department and Peoples Gas both came to the site. According to a neighbor, the home on College Street was occupied by three guys.
“It’s sad,” neighbor Manning Rose remarked. “I don’t know what to say about it but try to be more aware of what is going on around you.”
According to Johns Hopkins Medicine, most carbon monoxide exposures occur during the winter and in cold climates. On Tuesday, Butler’s low temperature was at 18 degrees.
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, more than 400 Americans die each year from unintended carbon monoxide poisoning unrelated to fires, while over 14,000 are hospitalized.
