Wisconsin Rapids Man Cleared of Charges in Fatal Crash That Killed 67-year-old Woman

DDN – A Wisconsin Rapids man arrested in connection with a fatal crash involving a 67-year-old lady is no longer facing charges.

According to court documents, all counts against Daniel Sawyer were dismissed on the prosecutor’s request.

Sawyer was accused of hitting a vehicle on Highway 73 near Plainfield. Deborah Peterke died in the crash, and a passenger was injured.

Charges were formally dismissed on Wednesday, the opening day of a three-day trial for reckless homicide and hit-and-run resulting in injury.

According to records, all accusations and forfeitures against Sawyer have been dismissed, including failure to inform authorities of an accident and driving at an unreasonable pace.

No cause for the firing was provided. Court records from late December show that the trial would proceed as planned.
