DDN – An 11-year-old Arizona girl was killed when she was struck by a pickup truck while riding her scooter.

The Pima County Sheriff’s Department named the victim as Emily Ramirez, 11 years old. She was riding a scooter when she was struck by a pickup truck around 1:30 p.m. on Friday.

According to deputies, Emily was not wearing a helmet and died at the scene.

Jazmine Rizo started a GoFundMe page, claiming it intended to help the family give Emily “the memorial she so deeply deserves.” She described the 11-year-old as energetic, sensitive, and happy.

“Emily Ramirez was a bright and joyful little girl with a heart full of love,” Rizo said on GoFundMe. “Her joy was contagious, and her generosity affected everyone she met, leaving an indelible mark on all of our lives. Although her time with us was brief, her spirit and memories will live on in our hearts forever.

Following the collision, the driver of the pickup truck remained at the scene and cooperated with the inquiry. Authorities stated that neither speed nor impairment appeared to be a factor.

Rizo claimed on GoFundMe that Emily was hit by a “distracted driver.”

A neighbor informed KOLD that several neighborhood children had recently begun riding scooters and playing together in the area.
