RICHMOND, Ind. (DDN) – The Wayne County Sheriff’s Department is investigating a weekend crash that killed one person and injured three others, including two minors.
According to Chief Deputy Alan Moore, officers were dispatched to the intersection of U.S. 27 and Indiana 122 after receiving reports of a significant motor vehicle accident.
First responders from the Abington Fire Department found a black 2017 Chevrolet Silverado and a red 2006 Dodge Ram in a field southwest of the intersection.
Troy Byrd, 68, of Manchester, Kent, sustained serious injuries while his passenger, Nannie Byrd, 60, was unconscious.
Nannie Byrd was pronounced deceased on the scene. Troy Byrd was evacuated to the Miami Valley Hospital in Dayton, Ohio.
The two occupants of the Dodge, both adolescents, sustained minor injuries and were sent to Reid Health for treatment.
According to the announcement, preliminary investigations show that while the Chevrolet was moving southbound on U.S. 27, the Dodge was heading westbound on Indiana 122 and failed to stop at a stop sign.
The Chevrolet collided with the Dodge on the passenger side, and the Dodge is thought to have rolled at least once.
