DETROITÂ (DDN) – A security guard at a Detroit school is facing charges after police say he sexually abused a 14-year-old pupil. Trevon Leviticus Ziglar, 23, was charged on Sunday with first-degree criminal sexual conduct for the alleged assault that occurred last year.
Prosecutors claim the attack occurred in a stairway at Cornerstone Jefferson-Douglass Academy on May 20, 2024. A pupil who observed the crime informed his parents.
Authorities said video evidence supported what the student claimed to have seen.
“There was video of both the complainant and the defendant going to that stairwell at the same time, and they were in there for about 20 minutes,” said Lisa Coyle of the Wayne County Prosecutor’s Office. “Most troubling is, allegedly, the defendant had told the complainant to tell the witness not to tell anyone.”
Coyle said she feels there could be more victims.
Ziglar, who is considered a threat to the community, is being held without bond at the Wayne County Jail.
Cornerstone Jefferson-Douglass Academy has issued a statement
“The incident happened eight months ago.” At the moment, we promptly alerted the Detroit Police and the outside security company to prevent the suspect from entering any Cornerstone property. We have and continue to fully cooperate with the police.
“The safety and well-being of our students is our top priority and we continue to take all necessary actions to ensure they are in a safe environment.”
Ziglar will appear in court on January 21 for a probable cause conference. He goes to court on January 28 for a preliminary examination.
