Detroit Police Arrest Two Teens After Instagram Video Shows Guns Pointed at Cruiser

DETROIT (DDN) – Detroit police have detained two guys after they shared a video on social media of themselves pointing firearms at a cruiser while on the road.

Assistant Chief Charles Fitzgerald described the event as “disturbing,” saying the footage, which was shared on Instagram, helped them identify both males and collect many firearms.

“You want to play foolish games, you win silly rewards, but you brought us to you by publishing this,” he stated on Tuesday.”

Both suspects are 19 years old.

Fitzgerald, who has been with the department for over 30 years, commended those working in DPD’s real-time crime center for assisting in the arrest.

The social media post resulted in not just an arrest, but also a break in a different case. Charles Fitzgerald stated that the two suspects in this crime were also involved in a non-fatal shooting in 2024.

On Tuesday, police conducted a search order at the suspect’s residence and discovered clothing worn by both during the incident.

“We were working on that for a long time,” Fitzgerald added. “Wasn’t until this video (that) we could connect the two.”

A third person was arrested but later released without being charged. Fitzgerald anticipates additional details on the case in the future.
