MERRILVILLE, Ind. (DDN) – According to authorities, a female ALDI employee was critically injured after being struck by a snowplow outside the supermarket shop. According to Merrillville police, the person was struck on Tuesday around 8:13 a.m. at the ALDI on 10 W. Lincoln Hwy.
The woman was transported to a nearby hospital with critical injuries. As cops examined the scene, video footage captured the snowy grocery store parking lot being cordoned off.
According to witnesses, the truck looked to belong to a private contractor, and the driver remained on the site. Others who work near the ALDI stated that detectives were present for several hours.
Merrillville police officers employed drones and other equipment to collect measurements and examine the scene.
Meanwhile, throughout the day, dozens of supermarket buyers were turned away. A sign on the door announced that the ALDI store was closed and would reopen Wednesday morning.
Police stated Tuesday afternoon that the woman who was hit is in surgery and remains critical.
The investigation might last several weeks. At this point, no arrests or charges have been filed.
A spokesman from ALDI said in a statement:
“Our sympathies are with this person and their family at this terrible time. Nothing is more important to us than the safety and well-being of our teammates. Please address all future queries to the Merrillville Police Department.
“The store is closed temporarily while an investigation is ongoing, and we ask for privacy for all involved.”
