83-year-old Driver Killed in Five-car Collision at Galloway Intersection, Police Investigating

GALLOWAY, NJ (DDN) – A motorist was killed and several others were injured in a five-car incident at a crossroads in Galloway on Wednesday, according to authorities.

The collision occurred soon before 3:30 p.m. on January 15 near the intersection of South Pitney Road and Collins Road.

James T. Johnson, 83, of Galloway, was traveling north on Pitney Road when he came to the Collins Road crossing, police said. A Lincoln Navigator was halted in the road while attempting to turn left onto Collins Road.

Johnson attempted to pass the Navigator but side-swiped it and collided with a Mercedes GL4, according to police. According to authorities, the crash involved two additional cars: a Chevrolet Cruz and a Nissan Xterra.

The Mercedes driver and a passenger were hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries. Johnson was seriously hurt and proclaimed deceased on the scene.
