Fatal Forsyth County Crash High-speed Driver Killed, Two Deputies Injured in Collision on US 158

FORSYTH COUNTY, N.C. (DDN) – An investigation is underway following a crash on Wednesday night that killed one person and injured two Forsyth County Sheriff’s Office deputies.

At 6:57 p.m., the NC State Highway Patrol arrived and investigated a fatal crash on US 158 near Brinkley Road in Forsyth County. According to a news release from the NC State Highway Patrol, a 2013 Hyundai Accent was driving east on US 158 when it attempted to pass another eastbound car in a no-passing zone, swerved to avoid hitting oncoming traffic, and collided with another eastbound vehicle.

The 2013 Hyundai Accent then drove left of center, colliding with a Forsyth County deputy’s police cruiser head-on. After contact, the 2013 Hyundai Accent collided with a vehicle traveling west behind the deputy’s police car and overturned twice.

Stanley Alan Shelton, 31, of Winston Salem, was the driver of the 2013 Hyundai Accent and died on scene.

The driver of the eastbound vehicle that was struck was transported to the hospital with minor injuries.

The FCSO deputy and his field training officer were transported to the hospital with minor injuries. The driver of the westbound vehicle was transported to the hospital with minor injuries.

US 158 was stopped in the region for approximately two hours as investigators worked on the incident. Taylar Moore, who observed the incident, stated that the driver was traveling at high speeds.

Moore stated that she was following an automobile involved in the incident for several miles on Highway 158 before to the crash.

She stated that shortly before 7 p.m., she was traveling down Highway 158 toward Stokesdale with her two children when she noticed an ambulance approaching and pulled over to stop as it passed by.

She stated that after the ambulance passed, a red automobile rushed by her and along Reidsville Road. Moore claimed she drove behind the automobile, which proceeded to speed.”I had my phone in my hand because I was fixing the call at 911,” says Moore.

Moore stated that the crash occurred as they were traveling by Old Flat Rock Road and approaching Brinkley Road.

“The sheriff that got hit went and turned his lights on so other people would see,” Moore recalled. Moore stated that she connected with the victim’s relatives through Facebook.

“The road is extremely dangerous…” “My heart goes out to his mother, fiancee, and babies,” Moore added.
