Tragic Collision in Port St. Lucie Leaves 3-year-old Critically Injured and Woman Dead

PORT ST. LUCIE, Fla. (DDN) – Port St. Lucie police are investigating a wrong-way crash that seriously injured a 3-year-old and killed a woman.

According to the Port St. Lucie Police Department (PSLPD), officers responded to NW St. James Drive and Charleston Oaks Drive at 7:05 p.m. on Sunday.

During their investigation, detectives discovered that a Kia Soul was heading south in the northbound lanes of NW St. James Drive while a Toyota Camry was traveling north on the same road. Police have identified the driver of the Toyota as Micardo Fortune, aged 37.

Officials said the cars crashed head-on near the intersection of Northeast Charleston Oaks Drive.

Beatrice Saturne, a 40-year-old passenger, was sitting in the back of the Toyota in the center seat and was taken to Lawnwood Medical Center, where she was pronounced dead. She wasn’t wearing her seatbelt at the time.

According to the report, Saturne’s 3-year-old child, Anne Jean Saturne, who was wearing a seatbelt but not a car seat, suffered critical injuries and was airlifted to St. Mary’s Medical Center in West Palm Beach. According to Port St. Lucie Police, as of late Monday afternoon, the toddler was in stable condition at St. Mary’s with non-life-threatening injuries.

Police identified the Kia Soul driver as Alston Creary, 43, and said he was taken to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

PSLPD is currently investigating the collision, however they have claimed that impairment and speed were not factors. A police department representative stated that it is too early to say whether anyone will be charged in connection with the wreck.
