Girlfriend Critically Injured After Deadly Collision on Highway 281, Boyfriend Dies Protecting Her

FORT WORTH, Texas  (DDN) – A North Texas man likely saved his girlfriend’s life when an SUV collided with them, killing both him and the other driver.

His girlfriend is not out of the woods yet. She is in the hospital battling for her life while lamenting the death of her boyfriend.

The deadly crash occurred last Friday at 3 p.m. on Highway 281 in Erath County.

According to the DPS crash report, 63-year-old Karen Huey of Hood County was traveling north on 281 when she “failed to drive in a single lane” and collided with a Cadillac, killing herself and the other motorist.

According to investigators, the Cadillac was driven by 21-year-old Watauga resident Jaelen Green. He did not survive the crash.

His girlfriend, 22-year-old Nicole Doggett of Georgetown, was critically hurt and sent to a Fort Worth hospital.

According to Kai Ward, Doggett’s roommate, the couple had a close relationship. “He was an extremely nice guy. “He treated Nicole very well,” he claimed.

Ward and a group of supporters are now uniting to help Doggett recuperate and cope with her sadness. He notes that, while she is healing physically, she still has a long and emotional path ahead.

Ward believes Green attempted to protect Doggett before his death.

“Nicole stated that the automobile lost so much control that they were hit from the back end, with the driver’s side taking the brunt of the crash. “Jae was driving,” he explained. “In his last moments, he tried to shield Nicole, and we think that’s probably what saved her.”

Ward says Doggett looks after her younger brother and the emotional challenge is challenging for everyone.

“She is going to be out of work. He added, “We have to take care of him, and we have to figure out how to take care of her.” “There’s a lot to figure out. We’re all young, and there’s a lot. We’re simply trying to do our best.”

DPS investigators have not identified what led Huey to lose control and collide with Green and Doggett. They have also not stated if they suspect Huey suffered a medical emergency or was inebriated while driving.
