Two-vehicle Crash on I-74 Near 118 Mile Marker Leaves One Injured, Closes Highway for Hours

SHELBYVILLE (DDN) – The Shelby County Sheriff’s Department is investigating a two-vehicle accident that occurred at 8:21 a.m. Wednesday on the westbound side of I-74 near the 118 mile marker.

Deputies said the collision included a 2015 Freightliner box truck from Missouri driven by a 26-year-old man and a 2016 GMC full-size van driven by a 58-year-old man from Indianapolis.

Shelbyville medics sent the van driver to Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis, while the box truck driver was examined at the site and refused further treatment.

According to deputies, the driver of the van rear-ended the box truck, keeping him inside until he was extricated by Shelbyville firefighters.

I-74 was closed from approximately 8:37 a.m. to roughly 11 a.m. Davis Towing and Recovery, Ross Wrecker Service, Waldron Fire Department, and Indiana State Police all assisted at the scene.
