Woman, 33, Killed in Athens After Suv Hits Ice and Crashes Into Tree, Authorities Report

ATHENS, Ga. (DDN) – A 33-year-old Athens woman died after her vehicle collided with a patch of ice on January 22, according to the Athens-Clarke County Police Department.

At 4:11 p.m., police responded to an incident near Danielsville Road and Harve Mathis Road. Investigators say Kendra Sims, 33, of Athens, was driving a 2003 Chevrolet Trail Blazer when she hit a piece of ice and lost control. The SUV drove off the road, colliding with a tree.

Sims died as a result of her injuries, despite the arrival of emergency services. She was pronounced dead on the scene.

This is the third fatal accident in Athens-Clarke County in 2025. Police are still investigating the facts surrounding the event.
