DDN – U.S. Attorney Timothy M. O’Shea for the Western District of Wisconsin stated that a 52-year-old Wisconsin man has been sentenced to five and a half years in federal prison on fentanyl charges.
Jerry Tate of Beloit was sentenced on Friday after pleading guilty on October 28, 2024, to counts of distributing fentanyl and possessing 50 grams or more of fentanyl and meth for distribution.
Tate traveled to La Crosse County from September 2022 to May 2023, staying at several motels for several days.

During this time, he supplied meth and fentanyl to a confidential informant. Tate sold almost 33 grams of fentanyl and more than 13 grams of meth over five controlled distribution channels.
Tate was detained in May 2023 when officials searched his hotel room and discovered over 100 grams of drugs, distribution tools, and more than $1,500.
He was released on bond for state crimes before being arrested again for continuing to traffic fentanyl. At sentencing, Chief U.S. District Judge James D. Peterson stated that the length of Tate’s sentence was appropriate given the time frame of his acts and the hazards of fentanyl.
