Detroit (DDN) – A Detroit man is facing more than a dozen charges after reportedly firing at a woman on the interstate, which Michigan State Police say was a case of mistaken identity.
James Edward Murden, 32, was charged with 17 felony counts, including attempted murder and possession of a restricted firearm.
The incident occurred on December 26 along I-94 near Mt. Elliott, according to MSP. Authorities say a lady was shot as she drove home with her two children the day after Christmas.
According to MSP, investigators used technology to identify Murden as a suspect and later discovered that the car the woman was driving was mistaken for another individual the suspect knew.
Officials did not reveal the victim’s condition following the incident.
Murden has been charged with three counts of murder, three counts of assault with intent to cause great bodily harm less than murder, eight counts of felony firearms, and one count each of carrying a concealed weapon, discharging a weapon in a vehicle, and possessing a weapon by a prohibited person.
His bond was set at $300,000, cash or surety. MSP officials did not provide any information on his next court date.
MSP officials have not revealed what prompted Murden to allegedly open fire on who he believed was a separate individual in the car.
