Valdosta City School Bus Involved in Rear-end Collision No Injuries Reported, Parents Concerned

VALDOSTA, Ga. (DDN) – Valdosta City Schools reported that a school bus was rear-ended on Monday afternoon, Jan. 27, at the junction of Oak Street Extension and Britain Drive.

The accident occurred while the bus was hauling middle and high school pupils.

According to several parents on social media, VCS did not tell them of the accident, and pupils were sent to South Georgia Medical Center.

Megan Roden, a parent, stated, “We don’t live far from where it happened. I heard the sirens and got a text from my daughter saying they were in an accident. The school did not contact us at all.

The district’s social media statement stated that there were no evident injuries to the driver or the students on board. “Every parent has been notified.”

Jennifer Steedley, Director of Public Relations, stated, “We’ve been told that after the accident, some parents choose to take their children for medical evaluation. No one was transported by EMS from the location.”

A witness at the scene told WALB that the bus driver utilized the correct signals before the vehicle attempted to pass the bus, which then halted.

WALB has requested a traffic incident report from the Valdosta Police Department.
