SALEM, Ore. (DDN) – On Thursday, the Salem Police announced that they were looking into the death of a woman whose body was discovered early Monday morning in a car that had been involved in an accident close to Independence.
According to the police, deputies from the Polk County Sheriff’s Office responded to a single-vehicle rollover that occurred at 6:30 a.m. in the 10000 block of Corvallis Road.
The male driver, who is 39 years old, was hurt and sent to Salem Health.
According to the police, the body of Ashley Jean Gandolfi, a 35-year-old woman from Salem, was discovered in the vehicle. The police found that Gandolfi had not sustained any injuries in the incident, but that her body was being transferred at the time of the accident.

The Oregon State Medical Examiner conducted an autopsy and determined that Gandolfi died from a gunshot wound. The cause of death was deemed a homicide.
On Thursday, the Salem Police detained a 39-year-old man after he was discharged from Salem Health. He was charged with murder, tampering with evidence, and abuse of a corpse.
As of Thursday evening, he was still being held at the Marion County Jail, although he had not yet been arraigned.
According to the police, Gandolfi and the male had previously been in a romantic connection.
