Car Crashed into Food Truck in Eugene; One in Hospital for Burn Injuries after Crash

EUGENE, Ore. (DDN) – A car collided with the Gotcha Burger food truck near the junction of 7th Ave. and Chambers St. in Eugene Wednesday afternoon, leaving one person hospitalized with critical injuries.

“Somebody came through the drive-thru and hit our building, causing the whole cart to get destroyed, sending an employee to the emergency room,” Trevon Huntley, owner of Gotcha Burger, said.

Huntley stated that the crash occurred around 2 p.m. One of the four employees working at the cart was sent to the hospital with burn injuries caused by hot fryer oil.

Huntley stated that the Eugene Police Department responded at the scene and determined that the occurrence was an accident.

“If it was an accident, this is one of the worst mistakes you could possibly make,” Huntley said. “The inside of the cart is completely destroyed. Our grill fell off. So right now, no, we’re not going to be open. We can’t. Everything’s off the ground, the whole cart has shifted. It’s bad.”

According to Huntley, Gotcha Burger may build a smaller food truck in the near future to keep revenue flowing through the firm. For the time being, his family cannot believe that such an event could occur. The wrecked food truck could take several weeks to fix.

“This is our family-owned and operated food cart,” Huntley said. “This is what we do for our livelihood and for it to be taken away like that, it does hurt but you know, as a family, we just got to keep moving forward. This is what we do.”A police report was not filed, according to Eugene police officials.
