35-Year-Old Woman Arrested After Killing Man in Head-On and Wrong-way Crash in Houston

HOUSTON, Tex. (DDN) – According to the Houston Police Department, a 35-year-old woman is charged with vehicular intoxication manslaughter for driving the wrong way on the North Freeway and causing a fatal head-on crash early Thursday morning.

Authorities say the woman was driving a black Ford F-150 southbound in the northbound lanes when she collided with a silver Jeep driven by a guy in his fifties. The impact of the crash was so severe that the man died.

Officers say they began receiving 911 reports about a wrong-way motorist around 3:00 a.m., and investigators are now looking into where the woman entered the freeway.

According to investigators, the woman showed signs of impairment at the scene and was brought into custody. She is currently being processed downtown.

Louis Gutierrez, who observed the incident, reported hearing a tremendous noise before seeing the debris. He claims the woman contacted him after the crash and offered him money for assistance.

Gutierrez expressed surprise that the woman made it so far.

The incident caused significant delays on the North Freeway during the morning commute. According to police, a third vehicle was damaged by debris from the crash, and a fourth car may have collided with the wrong-way motorist.

One traveler trapped in traffic told KPRC 2 that he had been sitting on the road for two hours while crews attempted to clear the area.

Investigators are looking into what caused a fatal disaster Thursday morning when a driver went the wrong way, resulting in a multi-vehicle accident and the road being closed.

Houston police were dispatched to the North Freeway at Crosstimbers, where Houston Transtar reported four vehicles involved. Investigators confirmed at least one person was killed in the incident.

According to HPD, a 35-year-old lady driving a black Ford F-150 was traveling on the wrong side of the interstate and collided with a guy in his 50s driving a silver Jeep, killing him. The third vehicle in the incident collided with road debris, while the fourth collided with the wrong-way driver.

Police believe the woman may have been driving in the wrong direction for around 15 minutes after exiting the downtown expressway. Officials said dispatch received many reports about the vehicle driving the wrong way. The woman faces a charge of vehicular intoxication and manslaughter.
