A man passed away on Monday following a medical emergency while driving his Chevrolet pickup truck, which led to a crash in Henderson, Kentucky, according to officials.
Authorities have yet to release the identity of the individual who lost their life in the accident that took place at approximately 3:40 p.m. near the intersection of Zion Road and Garden Mile Road.
A spokesperson for the Henderson Police Department, Jason Cullum, reported that a “full-size truck” veered into the westbound lane of Zion Road and struck a passenger car head-on after the driver of the truck suffered a medical emergency.
The truck proceeded into a nearby yard, colliding with three parked vehicles, Cullum noted in a statement.
Upon arrival, officers discovered the truck driver unresponsive. Emergency personnel assisted the individual before he was taken to a nearby hospital, where he was subsequently declared deceased, as reported by HPD.
Authorities have not provided specifics regarding the cause or nature of the medical emergency, but they suspect it rendered the truck driver unable to operate the vehicle before the collision.
Authorities reported that two individuals in the passenger car sustained injuries and required assistance from Henderson Fire Department crews to be freed from their vehicle. Both individuals were transported to a medical facility for care.
The HPD release indicates that, in accordance with state regulations, screenings for drugs and alcohol will be part of the investigation process. “At this moment, it seems they were not involved in the incident.”
The accident led to the shutdown of Zion Road for approximately three and a half hours while investigators, including a crash reconstruction expert, examined the site.
The identity of the driver who passed away will be disclosed by the coroner’s office.
