Indianapolis Woman Killed in Hit-and-run, Suspect Arrested After Truck With Damage Found

INDIANAPOLIS (DDN)—A 33-year-old man was detained in connection with a tragic hit-and-run crash that killed a woman in downtown Indianapolis.

Jazz Drane faces a charge of fleeing the scene of a fatal accident.

On Tuesday, the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department responded to a report of a pedestrian being struck at the intersection of West Michigan Street and North Illinois Street.

When cops arrived, they discovered 46-year-old Andrea Gibbs with trauma injuries. She was sadly pronounced dead on the spot.

Police discovered that the driver of the vehicle that struck Ms. Gibbs fled the area before officers arrived.

During an investigation, several witnesses gave officers with crucial information. Police stated this important information assisted officers in locating the suspect’s truck. The gray 2018 Ford F-150 was discovered on the 100 block of West Market Street, with front-end damage and a shattered headlight.

The truck was towed and inspected for additional evidence. Detectives also gathered video footage from adjacent businesses. This information allowed investigators to identify the suspect.

On Wednesday, he was hauled into jail in the 4300 block of Redfern Drive in Beech Grove. According to police, he did not provide a statement.

Court records reveal that Drane has a history of traffic offenses, including speeding and dangerous driving.

“My heart goes out to Ms. Gibbs’ family and loved ones as they deal with this heartbreaking loss.” “No family should have to go through this type of pain,” stated Chief Chris Baile. “I’d like to thank our police and investigators for the lengthy hours they spent identifying and detaining the culprit. “This arrest demonstrates their dedication to our community, and I am deeply grateful for their efforts,” he added.
