SPS Technologies Fire Leaves 250 Workers Facing Layoffs; Commissioner Calls on Warren Buffett for Help

Abington Township, PA (DDN) – Nearly a month after a devastating fire at the SPS Technologies factory, around 250 employees are now facing immediate layoffs. Montgomery County Commissioner Chair Neil Makhija is urging Warren Buffett, whose company owns SPS Technologies, to step in and support the displaced workers.

The fire broke out on February 17, 2025, at the aerospace manufacturing facility, with multiple explosions reported. While all 60 employees inside at the time were safely evacuated, the factory was severely damaged, leaving its future uncertain.

Now, as the company assesses its next steps, hundreds of employees are left without work. In a letter to Buffett, Makhija asked the company to provide temporary financial support and benefits for the affected workers. He also emphasized the importance of SPS Technologies to the local economy and the need for a long-term solution.

County officials are exploring potential sites to rebuild the factory, but no decisions have been made. Meanwhile, a group of attorneys has filed a class-action lawsuit against SPS Technologies, though details remain unclear.

For now, employees are left in limbo, waiting to see if financial assistance will come while the company determines its future.
