70-Year-Old Man Attacked on Manhattan Train; Paroled Gang Member in Custody

An ex-con member of the “Billy Bad Ass” gang was apprehended in the random assault on a 70-year-old straphanger aboard a Manhattan train on Sunday, authorities said.

The elderly victim was riding a northbound A train through Harlem’s 145th Street stop around 11:30 p.m. when two males, including the 27-year-old criminal on parole, stormed up to him, according to police.

One of the individuals, who were both strangers to the victim, hit him in the face for no apparent reason, according to cops and law enforcement sources.

A quick-thinking straphanger pointed out one of the two perpetrators to the cops, who arrested him on the spot, according to sources.

It wasn’t apparent whether he was the suspected puncher or an accomplice. The second suspect got away.

The man in handcuffs, who was apprehended but not prosecuted as of Monday afternoon, is a known gang member with 14 past arrests, two of which were for gun-related offenses, according to sources.

According to a WSOC-TV investigation, his “Billy Bad Ass” gang is a subsection of the Nine Trey Gangsters, which are associated with the Bloods.

The city suspect is on parole for criminal possession of a weapon in Queens, and his supervision is slated to end in 2027, according to state corrections records.

He is also wanted in connection with two Queens shootings that occurred in 2016, according to sources.

According to authorities, the victim of the metro attack received treatment on the spot for cuts to his nose, eye, and forehead.

According to the most recent NYPD data, 119 felony assaults have been registered in the city’s subway system this year, somewhat fewer than the 124 recorded during the same period in 2024.

However, misdemeanor assaults increased from 312 to 332 within the same time periods, according to statistics.
