49 new police officers across Bristol County and Cape Cod graduate from police academy

HYANNIS – Colonel Rick Rathbun (Ret.), Executive Director of the Municipal Police Training Committee, and Interim East Falmouth Academy Director Donald Mills announced the graduation of 49 officers from the MPTC East Falmouth Police Academy’s 1st Recruit Officer Class. After completing over 20 weeks of rigorous, standardized law enforcement training, these graduates will serve as full-time officers across 20 Massachusetts police agencies.

“The MPTC is dedicated to training professional, community-oriented officers ready to tackle modern policing challenges,” said Colonel Rathbun. “These graduates have shown dedication and resilience. Their cutting-edge training equips them to maintain the highest public safety standards. We congratulate them and wish them safe, successful careers.”

The graduation ceremony, held Thursday at Barnstable High School, saw the 1st ROC members take their oath and receive badges. The officers represent departments including Barnstable, Bourne, Brewster, Dartmouth, Dennis, Dukes County Sheriff’s Department, Eastham, Fall River Environmental Police, Falmouth, Harwich, Mashpee, Nantucket, New Bedford, Orleans, Plymouth, Sandwich, Wellfleet, and Yarmouth. They join over 450 officers graduated from MPTC academies in the 2024-2025 training year.

The MPTC’s Recruit Officer Course delivers over 800 hours of curriculum, aligning with the 2020 police reform law. Training includes de-escalation, use-of-force policies, effective communication, victim-centered and trauma-informed responses, missing persons and human trafficking investigations, mental health crisis response, active shooter scenarios, patrol duties, and officer wellness. Graduates meet all requirements for Peace Officer Standards and Training Commission certification.
