Bristol County District Attorney Thomas Quinn III has announced that a 62-year-old man has been arraigned on charges of OUI Manslaughter and OUI Second Offense related to the 2/20/25 fatal motor collision on the New Bedford-Fairhaven Bridge that claimed the life of 28-year-old Mason Evich of Fairhaven, Mass.

At arraignment Thursday afternoon, the Commonwealth requested a $25,000 cash bail for Robert Campbell with conditions.  The defendant’s bail was set previously in the District Court at $5,000. Justice Cloutier in the Fall River Superior Court set bail in the amount of $15,000 with conditions of a SCRAM three times per day, no driving, weekly phone reporting to probation and passport surrender.  The Commonwealth was prevented from asking the Court to hold the defendant without bail as a danger as the charges do not qualify as predicate offenses under the statute, M.G.L. Ch 276, Section 58A.

The Commonwealth alleges that on February 20

th

of this year the defendant had been drinking at the Bitter End bar in Fairhaven.  Upon leaving the bar the defendant operated his motor vehicle and travelled over the New Bedford-Fairhaven Bridge.  While on the bridge, the defendant crossed over the center double yellow line, crossing into the victim’s lane and striking his vehicle head on.  Mason Evich was killed as a result of the motor vehicle collision.  The Commonwealth further alleges that the defendant had a blood alcohol content of over .20 at the time of the collision.

According to a

GoFundMe fundraiser,

“Mason was a light in everyone’s life. To know him was to love him. He was the kind of person who always had something positive to say and was friendly to anyone he met. He loved spending Sundays with his family having dinner and he had the best contagious laugh that you could hear from rooms away. Mason loved spending time with his girlfriend Lexy, was always there for his friends, whether it was to go run errands, book a spontaneous trip, or just hang out and watch movies. He will be truly missed by everyone who was lucky enough to know him.”
