A Bristol County man killed in a motorcycle crash is being remembered.

According to Plymouth County District Attorney Timothy Cruz, at approximately 4:45 p.m. on Thursday, 49-year-old Matthew Burns of South Attleboro was operating a motorcycle travelling northbound in the area of 2309 Cranberry Highway in Wareham when witnesses say he lost control of the vehicle. Burns subsequently veered into the southbound lane and was hit by a white Mercedes GLC300. Burns was found unresponsive by Wareham Police and Massachusetts State Police upon arrival at the scene and was pronounced deceased following cardiopulmonary resuscitation efforts. At the time of the crash, Burns was accompanied by four other motorcycle operators, one of whom sustained minor injuries.

Massachusetts State Police interviewed the operator of the Mercedes GLC300 at an area hospital where she was receiving treatment following the crash. The woman told investigators she was travelling south on Cranberry Highway when she noted several motorcycle operators travelling in the opposite direction. While travelling through a bend on the highway, she told police one of the motorcycle operators lost control of his vehicle and she could not avoid crashing into the motorcycle or the operator.

A good friend of Burns gave some insight into the type of man he was.

“He was a wonderful guy. He had the biggest heart. He’d help anybody. He was fun. He was a lot of things. He was a beautiful carpenter. He could make anything as well as a bike. He loved building bikes from scratch, and he also helped mentor these young kids on little dirt bikes. There’s so much that this man has done for the community.”
