Heavy rain and flooding causes driving warnings.

Drivers are being warned to exercise caution after heavy rainfall caused a number of roadways to flood.

Following weeks of sunlight and pleasant temperatures, sections of Suffolk, Norfolk, and Essex have had bad weather.

While the rain is expected to reduce to isolated showers, a Met Office yellow weather warning for thunderstorms is in effect until 21:00 BST.

Suffolk Police announced on social media that it has received a lot of calls about standing water on highways.

“Please take care on the roads today,” Suffolk Police advised.

“Police have received a number of reports of standing water and flooded areas.”

Otley Primary School, located north of Kesgrave, is closed due to water entering the facility through the roof.

According to the Suffolk County Council’s school closures webpage, safety inspections were in progress.

Greater Anglia trains between Wymondham and Norwich have been cancelled owing to heavy rain on the tracks.

“Trains are currently unable to run until we know more about the situation and the railway has been deemed safe,” Greater Anglia stated on its website.

“Network Rail response teams are on site.”

The rail operator stated that it was attempting to locate replacement buses, and customers were permitted to use their tickets to go through Bury St Edmunds in Suffolk.

In Essex, Gosbeck Road and Warren Lane in Colchester were flooded, while travel on the A12 through Suffolk and Essex has been slowed owing to standing water.

The A1214 at Kesgrave, east of Ipswich, was also partially submerged.

Meanwhile, significant rain was seen in Waterloo Park and other parts of Norwich.
