After a morning shooting in San Marcos, two people died, one was injured, and one was captured. One suspect is still at large

According to San Marcos police, the incident occurred at 1:30 a.m. on Saturday at the intersection of San Antonio Street and Guadalupe Street in downtown.

Anthony Barrera, 24, and Alek Pacheco, 20, were shot during the incident. Barrera died on the scene, and Pacheco was pronounced dead later at a hospital.

Jermiah Jayden Tobias, 19, was detained just after 8 p.m. According to the SMPD, he is facing two accusations of capital murder and one of aggravated assault.

According to the police, the shooting was the result of a fight between two males who knew each other prior. A third person joined in after taking a jewellery from one of the men, according to reports. Tobias, the fourth individual involved, then fired several bullets.

The third individual in the battle received a graze wound and was released from the hospital.

What We Don’t Know

The release does not specify which of the men knew one another.

The reason for Tobias’ involvement and shooting is unclear.

The San Marcos Police Department is asking the public for assistance in locating a suspect, Avery Saul Bowman Jr., who is linked to the fatal shooting.

Police are also looking for help identifying and contacting a witness who filmed the altercation.
