Summary of research on the most LGBTQ+ friendly places in Oklahoma. We used Saturday Night Science to study the cities in Oklahoma that have the highest percentage of households with same-sex couples in 2024. The information is sourced from the American Community Survey 2013-2018 vintage. This survey provides details on gender based on household status. Unfortunately, the Census no longer provides information at the city level. Therefore, this report is based on the most recent data available.
- Anadarko has the highest rate of same-sex households in Oklahoma. Approximately 4.77% of households in Anadarko consist of gay individuals.
- Oklahoma City has the highest number of same-sex households in Oklahoma, with 1,014 gay households.
- Oklahoma is ranked as the 24th most gay-friendly state in the United States.
About 0.89% of people living in Oklahoma identify as gay. That means there are a total of 14,011 households with gay individuals in The Sooner State. Our aim with this post is to use Saturday Night Science and data to find out which cities in Oklahoma have a higher population of LGBTQ+ individuals.
Based on our analysis of 121 cities in Oklahoma with over 1,000 households, we have identified the cities that have a vibrant LGBTQ+ community. These cities are considered to be the most welcoming and inclusive for LGBTQ+ individuals in Oklahoma for the year 2024.

Method to determine the best cities for same-sex households in Oklahoma for 2024
To determine the ranking of the most LGBTQ+ friendly cities in Oklahoma, we analyzed data from Saturday Night Science and the 2013-2018 American Community Survey conducted by the U.S. government. The census. We examined:
- Percentage of all households that are unmarried, same sex partners
We only analyzed non-CDPs that have more than 1,000 households. We assigned a ranking from 1 to 121 to each place based on the percentage of unmarried, same-sex partner households. The city with the highest percentage of these households is considered the most gay.
In the end, it turned out to be the place with the highest percentage of gay households, at 4.77%. If you want to see the list of all the places in the state ranked from the most LGBTQ-friendly to the least, just skip to the end. We have made changes to this report for the year 2024. This report is our tenth edition of ranking the most LGBTQ+ friendly places in Oklahoma.
