The Ahwatukee community is grappling with the tragic loss of Jaylen Reeves, a 15-year-old Mountain Pointe High School student and football player who was fatally stabbed in the early hours of Saturday morning. According to a report byFOX 10 Phoenix, the incident occurred just after 3:00 a.m. near East Lakewood Parkway in Ahwatukee. Phoenix Police arrived on the scene to discover the young student suffering from a severe stab wound. No suspects have been taken into custody as of now.
Friends and family of Jaylen gathered to lay flowers and offer prayers at a growing memorial, while others congregated outside Chandler Regional Medical Center to hold a candlelight vigil in memory of the young athlete. We love him and we came out to show support,” one of his friends said, according to a statement obtained by12News. Jaylen’s friends and teammates have remembered him as an empathetic individual, with one noting, “He’s very empathetic, that’s why a lot of people have strong bonds with him because he’s someone you can open up to talk to even listen to.”
Ceth Reeves, Jaylen’s uncle, shared his sorrow, stating, He was a light in all of our lives,” during the vigil. In his final act of generosity, the Reeves family has announced that Jaylen will be donating his healthy organs to save other lives, as Ceth Reeves expressed, He d always protect us. He d protect his friends and in this way he s protecting somebody else s life,” a statement obtained by12News.
The investigation is ongoing, with police searching for a suspect and asking anyone with information to come forward. They’re urging people with surveillance video to look for anything unusual and share it with authorities. A GoFundMe page has been set up to help with memorial costs, and donations are welcome. Police are also asking the public to contact Silent Witness at 480-WITNESS with any information that could help solve the case.
