According to reports, a 25-year-old guy was arrested for allegedly robbing and indecently exposing a Manhattan assistant district attorney. Around two in the morning on a Sunday, the suspect, Brandon Simosa, violently grabbed the 38-year-old woman’s pocketbook, bank card, and smartphone from her in the lobby of her Midtown building on West 44th Street. According to ABC7 New York, he exposed himself after the theft.
Authorities suspect Simosa as a migrant after he was caught last Tuesday at a hotel on West 45th Street and Eighth Avenue using the tracking data from a stolen phone. Simosa is thought to be associated with the Venezuelan Tren de Aragua gang. Simosa was accused of sexually motivated robbery and illegal possession, among other charges, while in possession of drugs and around $525 worth of stolen Adidas apparel. His arrest, according to FOX 5 New York, is the seventh for similar offenses in as many months.
Allegedly connected to a concerning pattern of robberies and thefts in New York City, Simosa has ties to the notorious Tren de Aragua gang. This group of criminals is known to target ladies, especially those with phones or purses. Although the victim’s identity has not been made public, the assistant district attorney is dealing with the fallout from an interaction with what police believe to be a pattern of violence and predation that targets perceived weaknesses.
Due to a blatant conflict of interest, Simosa’s case will not be handled by the victim’s Manhattan office, since he is currently facing numerous accusations, including grand theft and narcotics possession. Rather, it is now being prosecuted at the Bronx District Attorney’s Office. Regional security operations are further complicated by the Tren de Aragua gang’s alleged involvement in criminal activity in locations like Times Square and Central Park. Such incidents cast doubt on ideas of shelter and safety at some of New York’s most famous locations.
