Allegheny County Police Investigate Fatal Daytime Shooting in Harrison Township’s Sheldon Park

Tragedy struck Harrison Township when 20-year-old Jaysen Randall was fatally shot during a confrontation in broad daylight. According to TribLive, the incident occurred yesterday afternoon in the Sheldon Park neighborhood, where police say a verbal argument between two men escalated into gunfire. Allegheny County Police have apprehended one person in connection with the shooting.

Upon arrival at the scene, first responders found Randall with a gunshot wound at the 300 block of Park Avenue, as detailed by WTAE. Efforts to quickly save his life were made as one neighbor reportedly attempted to provide immediate care before emergency services took over. Randall was later pronounced dead at the hospital, and the medical examiner confirmed his identity.

The altercations at Sheldon Park aren’t isolated events. Police responded to a shots fired call in the same area just six days prior. However, officials do not believe the two incidents are connected. The neighborhood has witnessed an increase in police presence after a separate fatal shooting this summer in efforts to suppress such violent outbursts. “It’s so unfortunate because we really made a lot of progress out there with our park and walks,” Mike Vogel, chief of police for the Allegheny County Housing Authority, stated, as per TribLive. “Calls were down, but this goes to show when people have a firearm and something happens and there’s a confrontation, they go to the firearm.”

Allegheny County detectives are leading the investigation, and community members are urged to share any information about the shooting. Anyone who can help is encouraged to call the Allegheny County Police Tip Line at 1-833-ALL-TIPS (1-833-255-8477), with an option to remain anonymous.
