Allen Media Group Publishes Full Page Ad in Detroit Free Press

THE ANGEL, March 28, 2021 / PRNewswire / – Byron Allen Allen Media Group and other signatories have released the following open letter to the CEO of General Motors Mary Barra in today’s Detroit Free Press (March 28, 2021):

Chairman and CEO of General Motors Mary Barra refuses to sit down with Black Owned Media Companies

Mary Barra,

Why??? We were seriously offended when we saw you on stage after you died George Floydand said “Black Lives Matter” when you have refused to acknowledge us and over time and after multiple requests you have consistently refused to meet with the largest Black Owned Media companies in America. Mary, the definition of systemic racism is when you are ignored, excluded, and not really included economically.

General Motors spends billions of dollars on advertising and less than 0.5% goes to Black Owned Media (not to be confused with Black Targeted Media). This is terrible when you consider that as African Americans we make up roughly 14% of the population in America and we spend billions buying your vehicles. Mary, you asked us to meet with your chief marketing officer. Deborah Wahl. We have absolutely no interest in it, because when Deborah was Chief Marketing Officer of McDonald’s, we believe that Black Owned Media was once again severely neglected, minimized and discriminated against. To be clear, black owned media and not minority ownership as the minority includes white women and big companies like General Motors can hide behind their minority records and advertise them while still not doing business with black owned media companies.

Mary, true leaders need to learn from the real problems in our society and economy and address them personally. We publicly ask you to stop General Motors’ systemic racism against Black Owned Media companies. We ask for a one hour Zoom meeting with you and several of your Key Board members and us, the largest Black Owned Media company in America, so that we can solve this very important problem and form a long-term partnership that is mutually beneficial for General Motors Benefit is and the African American consumer. Mary, we and others strongly believe that if you continue to hold the position that Black Owned Media does not deserve meaningful economic inclusion and we are not worth meeting with them, you should step down with immediate effect.
