American Airlines is set to broaden its European reach from Miami International Airport (MIA) beginning in the summer of 2025. For the first time, the carrier will offer direct flights to Rome Fiumicino Airport (FCO), and it plans to increase its flight frequency to London Heathrow (LHR). Along with the addition of Rome, American will also beef up its existing London service, now planning for two daily flights between MIA and LHR next summer. The airline’s vice president of MIA operations, Juan Carlos Liscano, spoke of an “unparalleled network,” thanks to they are rapidly expanding schedule. The service to LHR will complement other European routes, which are part of a joint business venture, providing seamless connections to over 175 destinations on the continent.
Rome’s inclusion to American’s itinerary starts on June 5, allowing passengers more opportunities to explore Italy during the summer. The new route and the expanded flights to London augment the airline’s extensive network at MIA, which boasts connections to over 155 destinations across 45 countries and territories. American’s European destinations from MIA also include year-round service to Barcelona, Paris-Charles de Gaulle (CDG), and Madrid, with American being the sole U.S. carrier to operate flights to CDG and FCO from MIA.
Miami International Airport is also the busiest airport for international freight in America and ranks second for international passenger traffic. The airport is currently undergoing an enormous $9 billion capital improvement and maintenance campaign. MIA is vital to the region, providing the largest number of flights to Latin America and the Caribbean than any other US airport.
