American Canyon Early Morning Traffic Stop Leads to DUI and Weapons Arrests Near High School

In American Canyon this morning, a routine traffic stop on Newell Drive near American Canyon High School spiraled into a significant bust when police detained two individuals on various charges, including DUI, possession of unregistered firearms, and illegal drugs. The driver, Damar Gaines, 34, of Vallejo, was pulled over and found to have a blood alcohol content twice the legal limit and was operating the vehicle on a suspended license from a previous DUI, as reported by the

American Canyon Police Department

.

Upon searching Gaines’s white Toyota Camry, officers discovered a loaded 9mm Smith & Wesson under the seat, maintaining an unregistered status. Gaines was promptly arrested, and while his passenger, Deon Finley, aged 37 from Oakland, didn’t initially raise the same suspicion, a further pat-down revealed he was concealing a loaded .40 caliber Glock handgun in his waistband, which was also unregistered and alongside this, illegal drugs were found in his possession which led to his arrest too.

Both Gaines and Finley were booked into the Napa County Department of Corrections, facing a slew of charges rooted in that fateful encounter: driving under the influence, carrying concealed and unregistered firearms, and illegal drug possession
