Antioch Community on Alert After Daytime Shootout Leads to Crash and Manhunt Near Local School

Antioch is on high alert following a midday vehicle-to-vehicle shooting that escalated to a car crash near a local gas station and food service. According to a press release from the

Antioch Police Department

, the incident unfolded yesterday at around 11:24 a.m., when multiple witnesses called to report the disturbance in the 500 block of East 18th Street.

Responding officers found an abandoned silver sedan in the parking lot of 511 East 18th Street. As the preliminary investigation suggests, the silver vehicle had traveled eastbound from the gas station when it was attacked by a dark-colored sedan driving in the opposite direction. The silver sedan darted in the chaos and crashed into several parked cars.

A man and woman were seen exiting the damaged vehicle and fleeing in separate ways. A man, apparently armed, was observed running northwest and hopping fences. Despite a thorough search, both individuals were able to evade the police. The suspect’s vehicle, meanwhile, was last seen speeding away westbound on East 18th Street and remains at large.

With a situation brewing amidst a school, the nearby Rocketship Delta Prep school was promptly placed on lockdown. The investigation is ongoing as Antioch police collect evidence and witness statements to piece together the events.
