Arapahoe County and Partners Unite to Tackle Hunger with Holiday Food Distributions and Resources

Arapahoe County is realizing that many of its citizens are in danger of being hungry as the holiday season draws near, a time when giving and thankfulness are in the air. The county’s Public Health WIC program is stepping up to help families access important tools in order to combat this. Arapahoe County claims that a list of community services, such as access to nearby pantries that offer special Christmas food boxes, makes help easily accessible.

The drive-through Fresh Thanks Food Distribution event, organized by the Integrated Family Community Service, will take place at Arapahoe Community College on Saturday, Nov. 23 without registration. Another organization making a contribution is The Salvation Army, which operates a food pantry for the underprivileged at 802 Quari Ct. in Aurora Monday through Thursday, with hours that accommodate both morning and afternoon guests. The county’s health program is applauding these efforts and educating the public about these options in an effort to expand its net of assistance.

Technology is filling the gap for people who can’t physically visit these places. The county’s release cited the Plentiful app, which uses a few clicks on their website to connect people to food pantries. To help families have one less concern over the holidays, Hunger Free Colorado is also providing support, which may be contacted online or by phone at 855-855-4626.

Thanksgiving is a time for celebration and community, not simply for eating. In order to illustrate this, Hope Starts Here is extending an invitation to families to sign up for a Thanksgiving food box, which is sent every two months. There will be more happiness soon as Kenzi’s Causes gets ready to give away presents at the National Western Complex on December 5—but registration is required first.
