Arapahoe County Human Services, in partnership with the Arapahoe County Foundation, is presently urging the community to help spread some holiday happiness as the holidays draw near. For people of all ages who are either going through a crisis, have been abused or neglected, or are struggling financially, they are urgently asking for gift donations. According to Arapahoe County, the goal of this effort is to completely fill the Winter Wonderland Gift Shop with items that will help these people and their families feel better over the holiday season.
Residents should think about giving anything from family-friendly toys and puzzles to warm blankets that are appropriate for anyone to brand-new or gently used winter clothing as a concrete way to give back. According to a news release on the county website, donations should also include wrapping materials like paper, bows, and bags. The program aims to meet the various requirements of the community, thus each age group has unique requests. Notably, gifts that encourage violence or serve as weapons are not included, which is a nod to the goal of keeping the environment pleasant for the receivers.
Contributions of gift cards, cosmetic kits, headphones, or athletic gear can help local teenagers. Legos, scientific kits, and sporting goods are among the toys with an exploratory and creative focus that the younger primary school students are requesting. Preschoolers are not overlooked; they like books, puzzles, and many themed toys that encourage play and creativity. Play mats, board books, and other comfort and learning aids are on the list for the youngest children, with a focus on toys and dolls that reflect all races.
Parents and other caregivers have also been taken into consideration, in addition to the children. Donations of gift cards to stores like Walmart, Target, and Sephora, as well as personal care items like perfume or nail salon certificates, are also appreciated. These contributions are intended to directly support and encourage those who consistently dedicate themselves to helping others, frequently with little acknowledgment or encouragement in their efforts.
Donations can be made at a number of locations throughout Arapahoe County for people who live there. Gifts are being accepted at two Human Services offices: one in Littleton and one in Aurora. Collection sites also include Colored Red in Aurora and the Arapahoe County Sheriff’s Office. In addition to gifts that can be shipped directly, people who are unable to drop off items can also donate money online or by mail, and those who would prefer to lend a hand in person can volunteer at the gift shop.
