The Arizona Community Foundation’s (ACF) six-month charitable endeavor has resulted in a whopping $60 million being awarded to various nonprofits throughout the state. Operating as a strategic nexus for philanthropy, ACF dispensed these significant funds between April 1 and September 30 this year, and the support spanned a diverse range of cause areas including Health Innovations, Community Improvement & Development, Environment & Sustainability, Arts & Culture, and Quality Education.
In light of National Philanthropy Day on November 15, the foundation took to the communities it serves, hosting events and engagements to underscore the significance of charitable giving. Among these was the Grant Awards Celebration held in Sedona’s Verde Valley, where ACF dished out $230,000 to 60 local nonprofits, according toAZ Big Media. Additionally, the efforts of the Jones family, known for their staunch philanthropy were recognized with the dedication of the Russ and Janet Jones Conference Room in ACF’s Yuma office. President and CEO, Anna Maria Ch vez, remarked on the far-reaching work of ACF, “From Yuma, to Patagonia, to Flagstaff and Page, ACF is awarding millions of dollars statewide and continually working to build a more resilient, equitable future for Arizona,” as reported byAZ Big Media.
Ch vez visited Flagstaff, mingling with donors and highlighting the ACF’s effort to respond to community needs precisely and impactfully. According to Ch vez in a statement obtained byPhoenix Business Journal, “What we’ve done with all that information is now educate our partners, our donors, about this extended need” and that “We’re a trusted source of information.” It’s evident that the organization doesn’t just grant funds randomly; it employs a strategic approach by conducting focus groups and community sessions to inform their action, adding, “We heard directly from community partners, saying, ‘here’s the need.'” This engagement with local communities appears to be key in how the foundation determines where to direct its resources effectively.
And it’s not just local events that have benefitted from ACF s initiatives. “Last year alone, we gave approximately $110 million in grants to communities across the state of Arizona, and some of our donors actually give outside of Arizona and globally,” Ch vez toldPhoenix Business Journal. It extends its reach through scholarships to students, and loans to government agencies all made possible, through donor contributions.
On National Philanthropy Day, ACF emphasizes that anyone can be a philanthropist. As Ch vez pointed out, even an 8-year-old Girl Scout donating cookie money is an example of giving, as reported by thePhoenix Business Journal. ACF encourages both individuals and businesses to explore ways to support Arizona s community, offering options like contributing to existing funds, supporting vetted nonprofit projects, or personalizing giving through philanthropic advising.
