Arizona Department of Transportation Lauded for Supporting National Guard and Reserve Employee Commitments

Recently, the Arizona Department of Transportation (ADOT) received recognition for its excellent support of employees who also serve in the National Guard and Reserves, demonstrating both a commitment to public service and an understanding of the value that military experience brings to civilian roles. ADOT has shown admirable flexibility in addressing this difficult balancing act, as individuals commit to their duties in civic infrastructure together with their military obligations.

ADOT announced that the Department of Defense’s Employer Support for Guard and Reserve (ESGR) program honored the agency and two of its supervisors in the Tucson area. They were commended for helping National Guard Specialist and employee Ariel Platt. Platt, a National Guard member and ADOT construction inspector, has commended his employers for their flexibility and understanding of his rigorous schedule.

“I’m not really taking time off if I’m away on military orders. I’m in training. “I’m serving,” said Platt. “That understanding means a lot.” In an effort to highlight the value of individual appreciation in the workplace, Platt nominated his supervisors, Anthony Torres and Jeremy Moore, for the ESGR Patriot Award. This honor is given directly as a consequence of an employee’s nomination.

Nine supervisors have received this kind of recognition from ADOT staff members in the last two years, which says a lot about the supportive and respectful work environment. Jennifer Toth, the director of ADOT, stressed that the organization actively recruits and employs veterans of the armed forces. “We believe their skills are very valuable, especially from a leadership standpoint at the agency,”Toth added. “The adjustments you have to make for the time away are well worth the leadership skills they bring to the agency.”
