Arizona Department of Transportation Seeks Public Input on New Douglas Connector Road

The Arizona Department of Transportation is holding a public hearing on November 19 from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Douglas Visitor Center to discuss the location of a new road to a proposed commercial border post west of Douglas. Comments will be accepted at the event and online, with the deadline for feedback set for December 9, according to the Arizona Department of Transportation.

The road being planned will connect State Route 80 to the new commercial land port of entry, running south via James Ranch Road. This route, part of a draft Environmental Assessment and Design Concept Report, was chosen with input from federal and local agencies, including the U.S. General Services Administration. The Arizona Department of Transportation is inviting the public to attend a presentation at 5:30 p.m., followed by a public comment session and open house at 6 p.m.

The Arizona Department of Transportation is planning improvements to reduce congestion and improve safety at the Raul Hector Castro Port of Entry in Douglas. A new port and connector road will better serve commercial vehicles and the region’s transportation needs. Documents are available for review at the Douglas City Manager’s Office and the Douglas Public Library. More details are available on the Arizona Department of Transportation’s study website.
