Atlanta Mayor Dickens Celebrates Success of Summer Youth Employment Program

In Atlanta, Mayor Andre Dickens announced the successful results of the 2024 Summer Youth Employment Program, marking a significant victory. A report on the city’s official website claims that the initiative gave the younger citizens of the city a record-breaking number of job and training options.

6,055 young people between the ages of 14 and 24 registered for the summer program, which is a focused attempt to develop the future workforce. According to the City of Atlanta website, Mayor Dickens affirmed the city’s commitment to providing a strong foundation for its young people by saying, “By providing youth with job skills, mentorship, and opportunities, we are not only creating the next generation of an efficient and capable work force, but we are also fostering a new generation of innovators, thinkers, and contributors to Atlanta’s growth.” Unfortunately, only 5,700 of the young people who registered for the program were matched with jobs.

According to the report, which is accessible on the website of the City of Atlanta, the participants accrued 206,432 hours of work and earned $6.8 million in total compensation. The varied professional exposure of the program was confirmed by the average hourly wage of $17.70 achieved by these young Atlantans in a variety of industries.

In order to support the program’s wide reach, complementary wages were funded with over $3.6 million from city funding and an additional $3.1 million from private partnerships. In addition to playing a significant role in matching young people with jobs that aligned with their career goals, the Atlanta Department of Labor and Employment Services also echoed the objectives of the Dickens Administration, which included enhancing economic mobility and creating safe spaces by creating prosperous neighborhoods.
