Early this morning, an Atlanta police officer’s routine task of securing a crash scene led to another incident on I-75 near the Ralph David Abernathy intersection. According to theAtlanta Police Department’s official report, the patrol vehicle was rear-ended while stopped with sirens and lights activated, preceding an arrest on multiple charges, including driving under the influence.

The collision took place around 12:15 am when the officer, who was responding to a prior accident, was hit by a Tesla whose driver appeared impaired. After the crash, the officer, whom the report did not name, remained alert, conscious, and breathing. The officer was subsequently transported to the hospital for evaluation of what were described as minor injuries.

The driver, identified as Pedro Thomas, stayed on the scene following the accident. He was tested for impairment after he admitted to consuming three alcoholic beverages. Thomas was unable to complete the field sobriety test, leading to his arrest by the Atlanta police. Following the incident, Thomas faced several charges including Reckless Driving, Too Fast for conditions, DUI, Obedience to an authorized person directing traffic, and expired registration. The Atlanta police took Thomas into custody, and he was booked into the Atlanta City Jail.
