Attempted Robbery at Oakland University Female Student Targeted by Masked Men in Oakview Hall

Early this morning, an attempted robbery occurred at Oakland University, targeting a female student on the second floor of Oakview Hall. The university’s police are calling for any information related to the incident, which involved five men wearing ski masks who approached the student at approximately 12:30 a.m. As reported by ClickOnDetroit, the suspects engaged in a conversation with the student, asking if she was in need of company and if they could take her car for a ride before attempting to seize her keys forcefully.

The confrontation escalated as the student resisted, yelling for help and prompting her roommate to open her dorm room door. The group of men, described as standing between 5 feet, 11 inches, and 6 feet tall and dressed in dark jackets, fled towards a stairwell after the intervention. According to the account detailed by FOX 2 Detroit, the suspects had a dark intent, making their getaway from the building thereafter.

In response to the attempted robbery, the Oakland University Police Department (OUPD) has issued a series of safety recommendations to the campus community. These include trusting one’s instincts, showing confidence through body language, being observant of one’s surroundings, and avoiding distractions such as headphones and cell phones. The OUPD emphasizes the importance of sticking to well-lit, populated areas and walking in groups. They also counsel against revealing valuables and using ATMs at night, as per the OU official report.

The university police are urging anyone with information about the suspects or the incident to contact them directly at (248) 370-3331.
