Under this program, Austin Energy sets the compensation rates, which are $0.1124 per kWh for systems under 1 MW and $0.0841 per kWh for bigger systems. The utility recognizes that these tariffs represent the financial advantages of entering into a contract with regional solar suppliers. In order to maintain competitiveness, the rates may also be modified every three years.
The goal of Austin Energy’s project goes beyond financial gain. The enhanced solar energy generation is anticipated to have a significant positive impact on the Community Solar Program, which serves low-income inhabitants in the larger community.
